Welcome back to the rumormill: Toyota developing cheap RWD coupe

Back in March, Winding Road floated the idea that Toyota may be in the process of developing a rear-wheel drive vehicle in the same vein as the Corolla AE86 of the 80s. At the time, it was easy to pass it off as pure speculation. Now, the GTChannel says that its sources in the Land of the Rising Sun have also confirmed that a 2+2, front-engine, RWD vehicle is in the works and that if an

Spy Shots: Hyundai Genesis caught

As much as we enjoy featuring professional spy photog's material, sometimes the real joy comes courtesy of your average Joe. So when we got tipped off that TheCarBlogger was able to catch a camo-clad Genesis prototype floating around out in the open (location undisclosed), we were more than happy to share the love.

Spies spot RWD Ford in Detroit

Looky, looky. Spies from KGP have caught a rear-wheel drive Ford from Australia at Ford's engineering centers in Detroit. In fact, the car appears to be in the process of being unboxed after its long trip from Oz. What does it mean that this car, presumably a rear-wheel drive Falcon prototype, has landed on our shores? Well, let's start speculating.

Autoblog Podcast #65

We're punchy for this one (just check out our outtakes at the end, even better than last time!). We start off with a lively debate over Hyundai's rumored full-size RWD truck on the BH platform and whether it will be good or bad. No consenus was reached, but it will be exciting to see if Hyundai can morph the concept of the Honda Ridgeline into something a little more haul-friendly.

GM rear wheel drive programs back on track; Now with more MPG!

Less than a month after General Motors reportedly paused development of their future rear wheel dirve cars due to the potential for new fuel economy regulations, Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz says the programs will probably go ahead after all. The powertrain mix for these vehicles will probably be adjusted to a more efficient mix than originally anticipated. Lutz was interviewed for the Detroit P

Autoblog Podcast #64

We're back with #64 after being laid low by illness and schedule last week. Starting it off is some analysis of the 430HP LS3 Corvette, which we were lucky enough to see unveiled in Bowling Green, KY. 430 horses in the base car...nice. Speaking of rear-wheel-drive sports cars, there's yet another special Mustang, the Dan Roth

SPY SHOTS - Hyundai Equus replacement sheds more camo

Hyundai's working on a rear-wheel-drive successor to its home-market Equus luxury sedan. The car's expected to debut at the New York Auto Show in April, and these most recent spy shots show it with less camouflage than we've seen it wearing in the past. You can't see the front end, but you get a really good look at the clean flanks. The roofline pays homage to the Euro iron Hyundai undou

Spy Shots: Pontiac G8 RWD sedan!

Now that the Solstice is here and things are quiet again at the Pontiac pavilion, it's time to focus on the next big thing from GM's "excitement" division. That car will be the Grand Prix replacement, assumed to be called the G8 based on Pontiac's current naming scheme. The G8 will return the Grand Prix to its rear-wheel drive roots thanks to the platform underpinning the Aussie-built Holden Commodore VE sedan. The G8 will be platform mates with the Commodore, likely along with a Chevy and Buick

RWD Impala coming in 2009

The General has been in desperate need of a rear-wheel drive sedan to compete with similarly equipped competitors. Thankfully, the great-granddaddy of them all, the Impala, will fill such a niche and finally return to its RWD roots in 2009.

Pontiac may get a G8 RWD sedan

General Motors' announcement last week to build the Camaro and other rear-wheel-drive product at its soon-revamped Oshawa facility is a perfect ignition source for all sorts of RWD product rumors, so let's get things started with talk about the Pontiac G8. The cancellation of the Bonneville has left the Poncho brand without a full-size vehicle, and the end of the

Spy Shots: Hyundai Equus

More spy shots are emerging of Hyundai's upcoming rear-wheel drive large sedan, the Equus. Likely to be renamed before it goes on sale here in the U.S., the Equus sports a 116-inch wheelbase, more than half a foot longer than the Azera's 109.4-inch wheelbase. The Equus will likely not replace the Azera, but slot in the lineup above it where it will go head-to-head with the likes of Infiniti, BMW and even Mercedes. Hyundai could use its 3.8-liter V6 to power the Equus, but also may opt for a V8 t

Spy Shot: 2008 Hyundai Equus

Before Hyundai brings its first V8 RWD luxury vehicle to market next year we hope the name changes. Equus? Why would you name a car after a genus of the family Equidae that comprises horses, asses and zebras? Regardless, The Car Connection reports the car's interior will live up to luxury car standards with the requisite wood trim and leather seating surfaces.

New York Auto Show: So cool it Hertz - Mustang GT350H

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning Ford quietly released these official pics of the Mustang GT350H (a.k.a. Rent-A-Racer). Some of the shots were taken on location at a Hertz rental car outlet, which pays homage to the good ol’ days when you could plunk down some cash and have your way with a Mustang for a day. No word yet on whether or not the Hertz of today will be offering the GT350H in its lineup, though we’re hoping it will. Nothing could perk up our summer vacation more than
